Description

Another very well known target in the Northern Skies - Messier 82. What I wanted to achieve this time is a good rendition of the Ha beams coming out of the core of the galaxy. In total I integrated about 10 hours of light (LRGBHa) from my Lacerta Newton f/4.5 - 1250mmFL with the QHY268M.

The acquisition was done during 3 partial nights and two complete nights (depending on fog and clouds) - in total 590 frames with exposure time between 60" and 120".

M82´s distance to Earth is about 12Mio LJ and its strange form comes from a fly-by at M81 some 500Mio years ago (assumed). It is a star-burst galaxy, positioned in the constellation Ursa Major.
